Peaceful Rally at TTUHSC After Discriminatory Graffiti

After graffiti was spray painted on the TTUHSC Seal last week, hundreds of students and faculty from Texas Tech joined in a peaceful rally to show their support for students from many different backgrounds.
The news coverage of the event can be seen here:

The following are a few representative responses of some of the students at the TTUHSC to the rally:

"Today, I was overwhelmed by a beautiful initiative that [TTUHSC student organizers] and SO MANY others took in the face of intolerance and bigotry that made its unwelcome way on the Texas Tech Univ. of Health Science Center Seal. Their kind and quick response - along with Texas Tech and a majority of people who are not Muslim - was absolutely one of the most heart warming things I have experienced as Muslim in my short time here. I mean seriously, within 2 hours people were on my newsfeed saying "I'll make flyers!", "I'll send out an email!", "I'll get flowers!", "I'll contact the media!" - all for a demonstration of peace. It was crazy impressive.
Truly, the best way to respond to hate is not by ignoring it but by 'disarming it with kindness'. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. And to anyone who has ever felt marginalized or unwelcome anywhere due to your race, background, religion, gender or anything else: know that at Texas Tech, Everyone Is Welcome.

"Thank you so much for this overwhelming show of solidarity, love and acceptance which truly represents what my experience at TTUHSC has been like. Like [TTUHSC medical student] said, everyone I've met here so far has been nothing but warm and understanding. And that's one of the very defining features of Tech that makes me proud of my affiliation with this institution every single day."

"From the first day I stepped into the TTUHSC campus, I was welcomed by EVERYONE; faculty, students, professors, physicians, everyone. There's this grand atmosphere of overwhelming love, unity and understanding at TTUHSC. I'm so lucky to be a part of this wonderful community. Even though I am out of town, I thank you so much!"

I am proud to be a member of a school that responded to a horrible event with a resounding message of love.
